Cold Life Cut Short

September 19, 2019  /  Shay Dygert

Finally, my third video is up! I have been having some technical difficulties creating videos for YouTube, which is why I don't have all the content of the painting process for this one. I am excited that I was able to get my favorite part, the tape! Hopefully I will be able to do more videos like this one very soon.

This painting was inspired by a hike my boyfriend and I went on the other weekend up in the Adirondacks. It was not the trail we were looking for but we were not disappointed at all. The trail we ended up taking started at an old abandon steel mill furnace. The old stone work on the stove was covered in spots of lush green moss and among this there was a little stomp. I love the idea that a tree could grow so much out of the stones. Sad that it was cut but I know someone probably did it to preserve what is left of the furnace.

If you would like, you can read more about this little ghost town and surrounding area here.

Materials:

Alvin .9mm Draft-matic Machanical Pencil

Winsor & Newton Gouache Paint

Dr Ph Martin's Concentrated Watercolors

Hand-book Journal Co. Trevelogue Landscape
